Release Of EarthDaily Analytics EarthMosaics™ Service Represents Major Milestone For Canada’s Digital Technology Supercluster Satellite-Based Environmental Analytics Project

Announcement by EarthDaily Analytics

Vancouver, British Columbia – March 2, 2022 – Following more than 18 months of development and a successful Alpha release in 2021, EarthDaily Analytics (“EDA”) is pleased to release the Beta version of our EarthMosaics service, which is designed to support the monitoring and data analytics needs of our customers by providing them direct access to large-scale, Sentinel-2 Analysis-Ready Mosaics.  These Mosaics allow end users to rapidly extract insights from the imagery by eliminating the time-consuming effort needed to detect clouds, seamlessly stitch many images together, and normalize the radiometry (color) and location differences between data sets. More information of the EarthMosaics service available here.

The EarthMosaics service was developed as part of Canada’s Digital Technology Supercluster Satellite-Based Environmental Analytics initiative, which accelerated innovation through collaboration with partners such as Microsoft, BC Parks Foundation, the University of Victoria, Hatfield Consultants, BGC Engineering, Mitacs and Environment and Climate Change Canada.  Unlike traditional mosaics that do not offer flexible customer options, the EarthMosaics service provides customers with highly customizable, application specific, cloud-free, machine-learning ready mosaics fused together from hundreds to tens of thousands of input images. We are now scaling up our EarthMosaics service to support additional customers and offer additional features to allow our customers to easily get access to cost-effective, high-quality, easy-to-use cloud-free image mosaics to support their analytics for forestry, water management, ecosystem change and a range of other industries.

“Climate change, urbanization and natural disasters such as fires, atmospheric rivers and droughts have escalated the need for solutions that can help us work together and reduce the environmental impacts on our planet,” said Bill Tam, COO of the Digital Supercluster. “EarthMosaics is providing the vital monitoring and data analysis that Canada needs to protect our communities, lead the world in sustainable resource management and address climate-related challenges head-on.”

Key features of EarthMosaics Beta service include:

  • Ability to preview the custom mosaic before finalizing selection parameters to ensure that specific needs and expectations are met
  • New support for larger areas, including country-wide mosaics
  • Support for any combination of Sentinel-2 spectral bands from Visible to SWIR at true 16- bit dynamic range
  • Custom feature or scene content data selection specific to a customer’s application needs
  • Seamless geometry and radiometry across the mosaic, validated with high-quality QA
  • Enhanced geolocation processing to maximize mosaic MTF (resolution)

“With the support of the Digital Supercluster, we are excited to announce the EarthMosaics Beta release, which allows us to scale up our customer base and support the growing demand for high-quality geospatial data to derive insights from the natural environment,” said Chris Rampersad, Vice President Engineering at EarthDaily. “By utilizing the power and flexibility of EarthMosaics to provide high-quality, customized, cloud-free imagery that is optimized for machine learning and AI at scale, our customers are accelerating their analytics capabilities and realizing the superior value proposition of the highly customizable EarthMosaics service offering.  Sentinel-2 currently provides EarthMosaics with scientific-quality optical imagery, and we look forward to bringing additional sources, spanning different modalities and resolutions, to the service as we approach the upcoming General Availability release” Rampersad said.

About the Satellite-Based Environmental Analytics Project

EarthDaily Analytics is leading the Satellite-based Environmental Analytics project in partnership with Microsoft, BC Parks Foundation, the University of Victoria, Hatfield Consultants, BGC Engineering and Environment and Climate Change Canada. The team is building a system to automate and accelerate the generation of high-quality, analysis-ready mosaics using multiple sources of complex earth observation satellite data. The mosaicking process seamlessly combines images, eliminating satellite location errors and correcting for discrepancies in spectral content (i.e. colours) to ensure the final mosaic is ready for analytics. This project is made possible through investment by Canada’s Digital Technology Supercluster.
