Health AI Academy
Supporting adoption of Canadian AI in Canada’s health sector.
Project Overview
Updated June 5, 2025
The Problem
AI holds transformational promise for health care, but its potential is held back by the need for a workforce with the knowledge and confidence to adopt, evaluate and implement these technologies effectively. In Canada, limited AI literacy among health care professionals is slowing adoption and reducing opportunities for AI companies to scale within their domestic market.
How We Are Solving It
Led by Unity Health Toronto in collaboration with KPMG (Toronto) and Signal 1, this project aims to train over 200 healthcare professionals with essential knowledge and skills for successful implementation of new AI technologies.
The Health AI Academy program will offer a combination of training and hands-on experience for health leaders, clinicians and staff. The curriculum covers core AI concepts, health-specific applications and best practices for responsible AI adoption. The program will empower health care organizations to make informed decisions about AI adoption, engage confidently with vendors, accelerate the procurement process, and improve implementation outcomes. In doing so, it will seek to support the growth of a stronger domestic market for Canadian AI companies by helping them scale within Canada and internationally.
