FibreHide: Threads of Knowledge

An Indigenous-led digital learning platform for cultural competency training.

Project Overview

Updated June 5, 2025

The Problem

Across Canada, organizations struggle to access authentic and scalable Indigenous cultural competency training. This gap prevents employees being empowered towards meaningful understanding and engagement with Indigenous communities and coworkers.

How We Are Solving It

Led by Steel River Group in collaboration with Headversity, Chemco and Tundra Technical Solutions; this project aims to develop FibreHide: Threads of Knowledge, an Indigenous-led initiative for Canadian workplaces, job seekers and organizations to access authentic and scalable cultural competency training through a digital learning platform.

The platform seeks to combine deep cultural expertise with cutting-edge technology to meet the growing demand for Indigenous cultural competency in Canadian workplaces. Its content will provide education and skills through learning modules on the history, diverse cultures and lived experiences of Indigenous peoples in Canada through storytelling, digital media and regular microlearning updates in a flexible, accessible format that can integrate into existing systems.

The platform will be guided by a diverse advisory council comprised of First Nation, Metis and Inuit leaders, Elders, youth, academics and community organizations to ensure its authenticity as representative of traditional values. Curriculum and learning outcomes for users will integrate values-based achievements aligned with traditional teachings, including certifications validated by Indigenous communities. For example, users will be able to complete culturally significant storytelling journeys as reflective of traditional community learning practices.
