AI Knowledge Assistant for Pharma Field Professionals

Equipping pharma field professionals with an AI-powered assistant that delivers approved, accurate information instantly.

Project Overview

Updated October 18, 2024

The Problem

The pharmaceutical industry faces unique challenges in sales and marketing and needs an ever-more educated sales force to handle the technical complexity of new products and regulations. The amount of information and material a pharma field professional is expected to know, understand, and use is overwhelming. Compounding this challenge is the sheer density of the resources field reps must navigate to find the answers they need.

There are inevitably instances when reps cannot recall specific information or locate answers to healthcare provider (HCP) questions. A recent survey of commercial team members at biopharmaceutical and medical device companies in North America and Europe found that  50% of respondents in leadership roles report incidents of field reps using unapproved content and messaging; almost all of those indicated this had a direct negative impact on their company.1 These situations put the pharma company, the HCP, and most importantly, the patient, at risk.

How We Are Solving It

This project will build upon ACTO’s strategic partnership with Advanz Pharma Canada to demonstrate the first commercial proof-of-concept for “LAICA Rep Assist,” ACTO’s GenAI knowledge assistant, built specifically for the life sciences industry. The project will provide Advanz Pharma sales reps with their very own mobile-friendly, voice-enabled knowledge assistant, LAICA, who will provide succinct, accurate answers to their questions based on approved, compliant and controlled content.

Through this project, ACTO will work with Advanz Pharma to define the contents of the “walled garden” of information on which LAICA RepAssist will be trained. This ensures that LAICA RepAssist will avoid hallucinations or made-up answers, and that the information provided to Advanz field reps is approved and accurate. This supports compliance and reduces risk, while providing field reps with a user-friendly way to get the information they need, when they need it.

At the end of this project, LAICA RepAssist aim to provide Advanz Pharma pilot users with instant access to precise content, training, and support customized to their needs, boosting knowledge retention, efficiency and effectiveness in their field work.

In addition to bringing LAICA RepAssist to life and a real-world Case Study with Advanz Pharma, the project will put forth a Business Model and Global Strategy to show the business value of applying AI to commercial use cases in the Life Sciences industry, paving the way for adoption among other pharmaceutical companies.
